Tolstoy’s theory.
for , no venture can be too light nor too adventurous in the vision of the creator .
petrichor. adheres to respective philosopher Leo Tolstoy’s definition of art. Leo Tolstoy's “What is Art?” is a classic text that explores the nature of art and its role in human society published in 1898.
Tolstoy’s unique perspectives highlighted in his stating, “Art is a human activity consisting in this, that one man consciously, by means of certain external signs, hands on to others feelings he has lived through, and that other people are infected by these feelings and also experience them.” (Chapter III, pg. 35)
illustrating this idea further, Tolstoy used the story of the boy and the wolf as an example of “infection.” He writes, “A man tells how a wolf came out of the forest and began to menace the herd. Everyone is afraid, but the herdsboy is not afraid. He goes up to the wolf, and strikes it with his staff. The wolf dies. Everyone admires the bravery of the herdsboy, and the story is thus handed down from generation to generation” (Chapter III, pg. 36). Tolstoy essentially argued that this story recited, told through the medium of language, has the ability to infect listeners with the emotions experienced by the boy and transmit them from one generation to the next.
in tandem with this definition, petrichor. aims to enhance taste, offer diversity in platform, and enrich the foundation of creativity within younger artists through the release of infectious art.
